History of the breedThe Mini Foxie was bred in Australia as a hunting dog to control mice and rats. They are a strong, athletic and agile breed with great tenacity. It was once common when visiting a farm to see a band of tenacious little dogs scouring the farm sheds in the hunt for mice and rats. The breed was soon recognised for its loyal, intelligent and fun loving nature and was widely adopted as family pets. With the advent of commercial mouse and rat baits and restrictions on the number of dogs allowed in town, the number of breeders diminished. In 1986 the Mini Foxie Club of Australia (MFCA) was formed and the Mini Foxie breed standard developed to standardize and protect the breed. The MFCA is a not for profit, voluntary group and their goal is to promote and preserve this wonderful Australian breed. The MFCA hosts Mini Foxie shows and fun days which are relaxed family days, to increase awareness of the breed and give breeders and enthusiasts an opportunity to meet together with their beautiful little dogs, chat and have some fun. The MFCA have developed a website www.minifoxie.org which contains some great photos, gives information about the breed, registered breeders and up-coming doggy events. A newsletter is also produced by the club and is full of stories and helpful information. MFCA members can also gain approval to access the Mini Foxie Trading Post and chat on line to other members, develop their own photo gallery and access information about breeders, stud dogs, show results and up-coming events. © Fran Smith 2011
